I have just come across a photograph of a fox fur in 'animals, plants etc' catagory and am just disgusted to find folk conversing about how beautiful it is, really...killing an animal for its fur so that folk can parade around in is beautiful, also unless you are living in the midst of Siberia these furs are not needed for humans to keep warm...but still there are those ignorant enough to not  give a moments thought to animal welfare, it really saddens me.

I agree--the fur looks better on the animal that it ever will on a person. I will say, though, that I've watched a few people - avid artists interested in anatomy and biology - who would pick up roadkilled animals and keep and study their skulls and bones, or taxidermy them, or keep their pelts. Not something I would do, and I find taxidermy a little morbid and weird (it's a dead animal, you know nothing about its personality or its life, and you're just going to stuff it and use it to decorate your house? seems a little disrespectful...) but I don't have a problem with people who do that. There are also those who hunt (which, if you eat meat, is the most respectful way to acquire it), and make sure that none of the animal goes to waste. I really hope that pelt did not come from either a fur farm or an animal hunted just to wear its skin, because that's a disgusting thing to do, but there are some decently-acquired animal parts on DA. I hope it was one of those.

I agree COMPLETELY. An animal should never be killed or tortured, whether it's for there fur, meat, milk or eggs. They don't deserve to die!!

I strongly agree with you. Skinning animals for their fur is wrong. What did they do to deserve this? Nothing. Taking photos of that fur and people still liking wearing real fur is completely unacceptable. Steaming Mad!

That actually made me think of something else: there are people who believe that a skin of a dead cat is a great cure for back ache. I don't believe in it. Isn't it better when a warm and alive cat is sitting on our back when we are in pain? This is a better cure, especially when our cat is purring.

I used to go hunting with my father when I was young.  We hunted for meat.  There where years if we didn't kill deer we might not eat.  We were a little desperate.  After things got better we would still go out.  After my dad died I tried hunting for old times sake.  That was when I found out I didn't really like the hunting.  It was being with my dad and helping our family that I loved. God, I miss that old man.  Now I hunt with a camera.  It's better that way.

Couldn't agree with you more. Fur is cruelty, and it disgusts me that people still find it fashionable.

It's also sad that when they make 'fashion' fur coats, they use 40 animals for one coat :(

I whole heartedly agree with you redstarling.   It is barbaric and totally unwarranted as faux fur is readily available and quite attractive.  I disagree with some other posters stating that animals are not skinned alive, they are and that is fact.  Glad to see a positive response to your post.

I recently posted something similar and ended up with a very nasty troll.

Stay well my friend. Please feel free to use this thumb Fur stamp by DianePhotos

That is disgusting. In this day and age, there is absolutely no excuse for it. We're not in dark ages hunting for food and tilling the soil to survive. A carcass is not beautiful and it's a sick and skewed perception to think so. It saddens you and it sickens me.

I agree with you.. killing animals for fashion is wrong. if you lived in a place where it was very cold and you needed them to stay warm or the animal to eat that's something different. but killing them for fashion.. that disgusts me.

This is sad, indeed.
I live to the north of the Arctic Circle, and I'm perfectly happy and warm wearing a furless parka, I don't need a fur coat. I hope that in the future people quit wearing animal furs, because really that's not a necessity.

I agree 100% I have been vegetarian all of my life and don't care for any animals being killed or harmed. Some people don't understand, they have hearts just like us, what if people started going around hunting and killing other people to put on their walls or skin them for a coat..? How would you feel if you were that helpless bunny that you just shot dead? It's truly sickening and turns my stomach every time I think about it. I live on a farm and people ask if I sell chickens for slaughter, no, all of my chickens are my pets and my friends. Thank you so much for posting this, I am glad there are people like you out there that will stand up for these poor innocent creatures. ^_^
Thank you :D

The only way I can see furs as a legitimate clothing is in a culture in which animals are used for food. It seems wasteful to spare anything that could be used, if indeed an animal must die that a human might live - of course, ideally, I think we have largely evolved beyond the need for base carnivorism. Just my four ha'pennies, though.

It's disgusting!! There's a huge fur thing going on here on DA :( poor lil animals..

I did meet a lady at a festival last year who fashioned beautiful clothes from roadkill though and I think that's a great idea if you have the stomach and skills for it. Waste not want not and all that. Not for me though... I've broken the heart of many an Ugg wearer with skinned alive prairie dog stories. People don't even know, and they don't want to know.... compassion for all is not in the vocab of most, unfortunately..

There are a lot of things going on about which I just shake my head in disbelief...

Indeed. And to be fair, even if one disavows any potential moral dimension of human carnivorism, there is the obvious biological component. The human intestinal system is not geared to work optimally on a carnivorous diet. Humans have a longer digestive tract than is common for meat-eaters, the kind designed for animals of a more herbivorous strain. I tell you, while I still eat fish, becoming largely vegetarian has vastly improved my physical health and wellbeing, and, I would argue, my spiritual wellbeing as well.

i agree so much with you.
people dont understand the life such animals have.Animals being skinned alive only because they dont want to damage the pelt, hitting poor baby seals to death (or half dead) while the mother has to see this happen (if they didnt kill her before ofcourse),foxes being kept is tiny cages awaiting their death while they chew their own paws off because of the stress,... and for what?! for stupid people to walk around in!its doesnt even look nice,i dont even get why people think its beautiful and why not wear fake fur,it looks exactly the same and less expensive.
So killing animals in the worse way to imagen is ok but if i for example say that i would kill someone to wear their skin as jaked they'll see me as a murderer while its the same thing...But we just keep spending our money to useless fur and killing hundreds of poor helpless animals...

Skinning an animal alive will multiply the chances of damaging an animal skin. This is a myth.
Animals are not skinned alive. There was a few videos made as propaganda in order to condone the use of animal fur.

Ideally, think about it- why would someone go through all the work of a three-man job of holding down a poor animal to try to skin it properly while it suffers? Only twisted minds torchure animals- taxidermists and companies marketing furs do not do such.

PETA tries to get you angry at people that use fur for many things. There are many occasions when the animal is already dead and it is used rather than letting it go to waste.

Hope this helps!

exactly! Some humans are so heartless.. they hunt for sport, and they don't give a damn about animals and nature!? I still don't know why they really need animal fur nowadays since they know how to make the same fake fur that keeps them as much warm as an animal pelt does... really, that's just stupid, it angers me.. why can't they leave the animals alone, they hadn't done anything to harm us..
